Religious beliefs of Buddhism
Overview- The Buddhism religion was founded in Northern India by Siddhartha Gautama in the sixth century, he then assumed the title of Lord Budda ( one who has awaken )
The 4 Noble Truths
1. Dukkha- Dukkha means suffering is universal and has many causes
2. Samudaya- Samudaya means that all suffering has a cause
3. Nirodha- Nirodha means that there is an end to suffering
4. Magga- Magga means that in order to end suffering, you must follow the Eightfold Path
They believe that when you die you are then reborn. They also have the Eightfold Path, the Eigthfold Path are Eight things to live by in order to not endure suffering. They are listed below.
The Eightfold Path
1. Right Understanding of the Four Noble Truths 2. Right thinking; following the right path in life
3. Right speech: no lying, criticism, condemning, gossip, harsh language 4. Right conduct by following the Five Precepts
5. Right livelihood; support yourself without harming others 6. Right Effort: promote good thoughts; conquer evil thoughts
7. Right Mindfulness: Become aware of your body, mind and feelings 8. Right Concentration: Meditate to achieve a higher state of consciousness
